The final push

One week left until my inspection and so many little things to tighten up. But if feels good to have the finish line in sight. My day begin with circling back to the Vertical Stabilizer/Horizontal stabilizer fairing. I had drilled the holes but they needed to be countersunk and then the final screws installed. Knocked that out and moved on…

Panel done???

Oh I’m sure something will pop up but this morning I finished the wiring behind the panel and was happy to see the autopilot servos were detected, firmware automatically updated, and the looked good. I may have accidentally run the aux fuel tank pumps for a second, so I know those work too. I still need to wire the wing…

More wiring…And flaps!

Ugh, I am tired of wiring but there is still work to be done. Hopefully tomorrow I can finish up the avionics/electrical. Notice no pictures, yeah it pretty much looks the same as before I started. Yes I am salty. But as a break from wiring, the flaps are now on and connected to the flap tube. That means time…

Spar Tunnel Done?

For real, I think the spar tunnel is done until the wings go on… Started off adding connectors and drilling brackets made by fellow builder Leo for a set screw need to keep the Tosten stick grips from spinning. Then moved back into wiring mode to work on the connectors that stick grips plug into. That took awhile… Also soldered…

Do you enjoy watching paint dry?

Yep, wiring is a slow process. With no way to take exciting pictures, you will have to settle for a couple boring ones. Today was running the last of the wiring (I think) for the control sticks and for the light controller. Both will be located under the front seats. I did work on two of the VPX connectors but…

Left ER Tank Bolted On

Damn, what a frustrating day, it wasn’t that anything went horribly wrong. Just one of those days. On the positive side, I did manage to get the left ER tank 100% bolted on, all that remains is running the fuel lines and tank vent. I keep going back to how much effort it was for the mid bracket (4 hours).…

Non-standard changes, take a guess on time and triple it…

So I am learning the lesson on how long things take when you deviate from the plans. First, I have to say the past two days designing parts and figuring things out myself has been fun. But…it is very time consuming. Take the PH Aviation flap bracket. I chose to design something myself and I think I’m on design rev…

Big Day of Little Projects

The day started with three hours of finishing the Elevators. Whew, this section too quite a bit more effort than I had expected. Will be interesting to see how long the Horizontal Stabilizer takes to assemble/rivet… From there, assembly of the aileron push tubes and aileron roll trim bracket. Fabrication of new brackets for the PH Aviation flap actuator. Started…
