The main reason we stuck around Mazatlán was to get the boat washed, polished, and waxed. After Louis and his guys on dock 4 at Marina Mazatlán finished, the fiberglass on Strikhedonia was shining better than any other time we have owned her, and all for a very reasonable price.
Our boat wasn’t the only thing that needed work done. I was way overdue for a haircut and also needed a teeth cleaning.
No English, no problem. Haircut – check.
Hard to beat 60 pesos (about 3 bucks) for a haircut. Yeah, I like it in Mexico.
Dra. Ma. Isabel Nieblas Urias was the dentist recommended by Isabel (no relation) on JollyDogs. It was a great teeth cleaning experience and I even had them make a retainer to wear at night. Definitely high on the recommendation list.

This proved to be a perfect place to get both checked off the list. But all work and play ruins the adventure so we made time for some awesome food. Oh and attempted to get cultured by attending the Nutcracker ballet.
After the overnight passage, Huevos Motulenos at Guy y Gus filled the gap in my belly. Just what I needed.
Checking out the places to eat in Mercado Municipal "José Ma. Pino Suarez" we settled on a gem. The place is tiny and there is an outgoing lady who pulls you in and finds a place for you, eat and move is the motto here. JollyDogs and Strikhedonia all settled in birria. Oh. My. God. Yes!
Mexico knows how to do sashimi and never skimps on the quantity. This dish didn't last long once our server dropped it off.
This Tortilla soup at Kua was possibly the best I have every had. It had the perfect amount of spice.
Porkbelly entrée from Kua which is walking distance from Marina Mazatlán.
We had heard about the pulpo (octopus) being amazing at La Fabula. We were not disappointed with these tostadas. This is a cute spot with books on every table and a relaxed atmosphere.
After enjoying the birria we had to make a second stop for marlin tostados. Mazatlán is famous for smoked marlin and with the incredible broth to pour over the top it made my belly very happy and content.
Ticket and program for El Cascanueces (The Nutcracker) ballet at the famous Tearto Angela Peralta.
It seems I didn't have a collared shirt, since it was the theater best I look somewhat presentable so the hunt was on a for a cheap shirt. After much searching a nice lady selling clothes on the sidewalk give this gem away for 20 pesos.
A huge Christmas tree in the lobby of Teatro Angela Peralta.
This is the opening scene. While the ballet was great, the most impressive part of the performance was the 45 piece orchestra and 25 person choir. Those numbers are just unheard of these days.
Tableside guacamole at Topolo, yes please!
Pescado Veracruz at Topolo. This restaurant was highly rate and the food was good, but... it was 100% tourists. The prices reflected that so next time I'd pass on visiting here.
Onilikan Licores Artesanales is a micro-distiller in Mazatlán that gave us a free tour and probably more tastings that we needed. We picked up a bottle of their "Gin Tequila" that used Mexican aromatics and spices.
Here is the Mexican Gin made with tequila. Giving martinis an interesting (in a good way) flavor.
We crashed El Sazon Sinaloense as they were just about to open. I knew I was in for a good meal when the owner's face lit up as I ordered the gorditas de adobada. and explained it was his favorite. The taco and tostado rounded out a fabulous meal.
If you have the time, the pizza is the bomb. I'd suggest ordering before you hike up goat hill.
Holy Hanna, was the garlic shrimp pizza amazing. The wait was forever but so what, the view and the perros helped us pass the time.
