Propeller Shaft Grooves
It is an issue that Gori propellers installed on a SD20 saildrive will form grooves over time which will result in sea water penetration. Periodic repositioning of the seals using shims allow longer life from the propeller shafts.
Methods to deal with groves on the propeller shaft:
- Add/re-position spacers between the seals
- Machine propeller shaft and add a 316SS sleeve to return to original size (35mm)
- Replace propeller shaft
Notes:
The 99139 SKF Speedi Sleeve For 35.00mm/1.375" Shaft has been installed over the propeller shaft - this is a bad idea. The Speedi Sleeve is not rated for continuous salt water immersion so it is not 17-4 ph (likely the propeller shaft material) or 316SS.
