It is an issue that Gori propellers installed on a SD20 saildrive will form grooves over time which will result in sea water penetration. Periodic repositioning of the seals using shims (P/N 196315-02880 Circlip, Needle 52) allow longer life from the propeller shafts.
Methods to deal with groves on the propeller shaft:
- Add/Re-position spacers between the seals
- Machine propeller shaft and add a 316SS sleeve to return to original size
- Replace propeller shaft
Notes:
- Propeller shaft diameter: 35mm (where the seals ride)
- Propeller shaft material: Likely 17-4 ph
- Speedi Sleeve: The 99139 SKF for a 35.00mm/1.375" shaft has been installed over the propeller shafts by others - this is a bad idea. The Speedi Sleeve is not rated for continuous salt water immersion so it is not recommended.
