There was heavy rain off and on throughout the night and we woke to a very humid, damp space. I got to cleaning the windows and solar panels. Carl dried off the inside of the windows and we settled in to wait for hopefully clearing skies. By ten it was looking pretty good, so I grabbed a paddle board and started off to a snorkel spot that our neighbors had suggested and that Carl sawm yesterday.
A bit before a pinnacle that I wanted to dive, I came upon a small, very small sandy beach. I paddled in and stashed the board. Realizing I was close to the second fresh water lake I couldn’t not go take a look. No trail today, but it wasn’t too hard to find a path. I was wearing dive boots, so the only real concern was something puncturing my foot. I continued carefully. About a quarter mile later I had arrived. Very similar to the first lake. I headed to the waters edge to get a picture when I nearly lost a boot. It was like quicksand. Back I went and I found a fallen tree I could climb out to the waters edge, trading sinking in muck to slipping off a moss covered tree. But I dodged another bullet making out out safely in not one but two different spots along the lake. With my track to the lake, it was easy to get back to my board and grab my snorkel equipment.
Into the water, rinsing off the dirt from the hike and cooling down from the hot humid air. Carl had not been impressed but I had a different experience. I came across a number of large parrot fish, some nice snappers, and lots of colorful smaller fish. No turtles or ray which others had seen around here but still a very nice snorkel. The ocean side of the pinnacle held the best coral and I hovered for a long time watching the fish go about feeding and darting in and out of holes to avoid me. My tummy rumbling, I headed back for lunch.
In the afternoon some light rain came and went, making it easy to read and nap the afternoon away. A great balance of activity and rest for the day.
