The plan was to move up to Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, today because there was a blow coming that we wanted to stay ahead of. I had a work meeting at 10:00am, so once that was done we got moving. Some coffee, some breakfast, and a dinghy ride to explore the shoreline was in order. Carl and I putted out to edge of the bay and slowly explored the caves. In a kayak it would have been possible to paddle in but with a dinghy and big surge it would be too risky. Along the way we watched steam escape the fissures in the rock, one area boiling water spurted out. At a lower time there is a “hot tube” area, unfortunately it was underwater so no soak for us.
My call came and went, and up came the anchor. The sail would be a bit rowdy with winds in the mid-twenties and waves slamming against the hull. We swapped around watch schedules and I took the 9pm-11pm and 3am-5am slots. The big bummer was being wide awake at 11pm and only ending up with a few hours sleep. Blerg. With the sunrise we were just pulling around the corner and into Port Villa. While not the most restful passage, it was fine, but did leave us all feeling quite tired.
