During my normal engine checks I noticed rust below the starboard Yanmar exhaust elbow. This can be a huge deal because if the inner tube has a rust hole, the raw cooling water can be pushed into the cylinders and hydrolock the engine. So for a week we limited the starboard engine to anchoring until a new exhaust elbow could be acquired.
A few years ago I had researched exhaust elbows and found that the OEM Yanmar parts (P/N: 128890-13530 and P/N: 128397-13530) were highly susceptible to failure, which led to a company offering a superior product made of 316 stainless steel. Less expensive than OEM with excellent reviews made this a no brainer. Parts in hand it was possibly the quickest boat repair ever!
Strikhedonia is NOT sponsored by ExhaustElbow.com, but we were extremely happy with the fast turn-around (shipped the same day we placed the order) and their high quality product.
Highlights of ExhaustElbow.com’s product:
– Constructed of 316 Stainless
– Acid passivized high polish finish
– $129.50 (each when buying two), price includes gaskets and shipping
Good to know. Just wish I’d read three months ago when we replaced ours!
