After midnight conditions improved to what I would call “moderate” (probably a 3 on John’s scale). My second break to sleep was not great but I did manage a few hours with an interruption in the middle to help Carl drop the main sail due to lack of wind.
With arrival assured, I took to clearing out the freezers of meat. Australia is very tight on importing meat and there are large charges for biosecurity to dispose of any illegal items brought into the country. Dinner tonight was planned for pizza, so dough making was also on my schedule. Work items complete I took a break to finish a movie I started last night (seeing a trend?) and to get some rest. The coffee made sleep not an option but it still felt good to have some downtime.
It was with a deep sigh that the severe weather broke, with the seas flattening out as the day progressed. We had plenty of fuel for our last night but since we had 160 liters in jerry cans we decided to transfer it to the main tanks. With not much going on it was enjoyable to have a project. Work done we played a few games of Fast Tracks before dinner with Roxy being the big winner.
The pizza for dinner was spectacular, maybe more so as it was our last meal underway. But no, seriously it was great. We cleaned up and settled into our watch schedule. Another blow, smaller than yesterday was forecast. About an hour into my first watch the wind had picked up to 12 knots, so I woke Carl and we raised the sails. Not enough to maintain speed under wind power, so we motorsailed along.
